At the 17th Capital Showdown—hockey nonstop. 🏒
From the rivers of Maryland to cities afar,
Seventy-seven teams, most have traveled by car.
From 8U dreamers to 16U strong,
They’ve packed sticks and hopes and brought them along.
From New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania too,
From Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina blue,
And all the way down where Georgia suns rise,
The Atlanta Phoenix chase northern ice skies.
Twelve proud Mamaroneck Tigers Teams arrive in a wave,
Each division representing so brave.
From their first stride to their fiercest attack,
They’ve brought half of New York on their backs.
From the Hudson’s salute to the Severn’s proud bay,
Two storied rivals skate proudly this way—
West Point Jr. Black Knights vs Navy Youth Hockey
Sticks ready to play,
Honor meets hockey in a Capital way.
From far southern highways the Atlanta Phoenix glide,
The longest road traveled, with fire and pride.
The Wilmington Seahawks ride coastal air,
While Cape Fear storms in with Carolina flair.
The Jersey Wolves howl from Montclair ice,
With Old Bridge Jr. Knights and Grundy Senators skating precise.
The Union Thunder, Skyland Kings, and NJ Colonials roll in from the Garden State night,
Ready to battle in tomorrow’s first fight.
From Buffalo snow come the Buffalo Regals bold,
And Southampton joins us for the first time in the fold.
Welcome newcomers—your story begins,
With early alarms and tournament pins.
Local pride rises from Maryland ice:
The Howard Huskies skating fast and precise.
The Bowie Bruins and Tri-City Eagles defend their home rink,
While SoMD Sabres flash blades in a blink.
The Maryland Jr. Black Bears bring Odenton might,
And the Frederick Freeze and Victory Stars shine bright tonight.
Tomorrow’s Ice waits just down the road,
Dreaming of goals and the crowd’s loud ode.
Across Virginia the challengers roam—
The Piedmont Predators and Reston Raiders hunting close to home,
The Roanoke Jr. Dawgs ready to bark,
While Hampton Roads Warriors circle the park.
From the Country’s heart come champions’ friends—
The Carolina Jr. Canes, who skate every Showdown weekend.
The Queen City Royals arrive crowned with pride,
And Lynchburg Coyotes from VA howl from mountainside.
Pennsylvania brings ice in their veins:
The Campus Wild and Pittsburgh Yetis ready for the games,
The Exton Kings with royal aim,
The Lehigh Valley Phantoms and Hershey Jr. Bears chasing tournament fame.
Tonight the arenas quietly wait,
For the laughter, the goals, the thrill of the skate.
For friendships traded in pins and smiles,
And hockey families traveling miles.
